EAST premiere in Gwangju, South Korea on 9.October

EAST is a pivotal solo work on Arco Renz' trajectory of 15 years of work between Asia and Europe.
EAST is a spatial indication, a direction on the map. EAST is a notion that is used in countless contexts and is open to manifold associations.
Inside a spheric installation by Lawrence Malstaf (Norway) and a high speed environment of LED-lights by Fujimoto Takayuki (Japan) aka Kinsei, dancer and choreographer Arco Renz projects his body into movements, seemingly 'foreign' and yet 'belonging' to his artistic and cultural background.
The dance engages in a vibrant dialogue with live music by Phu Pham (Vietnam) and Marc Appart (Belgium), simulating, exposing and physically shaking stereotypical representations of 'Orient' and 'Occident'. Notions that, speaking with Edward Saïd, “do not correspond to a stable reality that exists as a natural fact”.
The premiere takes place this Friday, October 9th 2015 at the Asian Arts Theater in Gwangju/South Korea.

* 9.-10.Oct.2015 - 19:00 - Asian Arts Theatre - Gwangju/South Korea
Performances in Belgium:
* 15.-16.03.2016 - Les Brigittines, Contemporary Arts Center for Movement - Brussels
* 16.11.2016 - KC Vooruit - Ghent

Belgian premiere of ALPHA in Bruges on 28.October

In ALPHA Arco Renz works with award winning pole dancers Daniel Kok (Singapore) and Eisa Jocson (Philippines).
Together with the kinetic force of computer-controlled LED-lighting from Takayuki Fujimoto (Japan) and the fluvial soundscape by Marc Appart (Belgium), Arco Renz shows the visceral and sensorial minefield of pole dancing that provokes questions on the politics of gender and desire, and the complicity of seduction and manipulation.
After performances in Singapore, Thailand and Switzerland, this is the Belgian premiere.

* 28.October 2015 - 20:00 - cc Bruges - MaZ
Commissioned by Esplanade Theatres by the Bay, Singapore.
