Chers amis, chers amateurs d'art,

En collaboration avec les Éditions Michel Husson (Bruxelles, BE), l'Atelier 340 Muzeum présente une exposition de photographie sociologique : une sélection des tirages de deux photographes ayant pour point commun d'être entrés en relation avec des populations qu'il est habituellement malaisé de rencontrer.

Plusieurs années durant, Jean-Manuel Simoes (FR) a arpenté, dans les communes de la banlieue parisienne, ces quartiers dits sensibles qui défrayent régulièrement la chronique des journaux. Avec Chiens de la casse, il nous livre un constat sans artifice des bandes de jeunes qu'il y a rencontrées.

Accompagné de son amie et traductrice Andreea, Sébastien Cuvelier (LU) a parcouru à plusieurs reprises les routes roumaines pour un périple total de plus de 6000 kilomètres, le menant aux quatre coins du pays : Ciurea au nord-est, Ivesti et Liesti à l'est, Strehaia à l'ouest, Buzescu au sud. L'univers qu'il y a découvert est celui de communautés étonnantes de Roms prospères, affichant de façon extravagante réussite sociale et signes ostentatoires.

Je vous invite chaleureusement au vernissage le samedi 29 mars 2014 dès 11h. Je prépare pour l'occasion quelques spécialités gustatives de Jette, bières catholiques et autres wodkas des Carpates.

In samenwerking met de Brusselse uitgever Éditions Michel Husson (Brussel, BE) presenteert Atelier 340 Muzeum een tentoonstelling van sociologische fotografie : een selectie beelden van twee fotografen die allebei in contact zijn gekomen met mensen die men doorgaans slechts moeilijk kan ontmoeten.

Gedurende verschillende jaren is Jean-Manuel Simoes (FR) door de voorsteden van Parijs getrokken, in de zogenaamd kwetsbare wijken die regelmatig de krantenkoppen halen. Met Chiens de la casse toont hij ons een ongekunsteld beeld van de jeugdbendes die hij daar ontmoette.

Vergezeld van zijn vriendin en vertaalster Andreea ging Sébastien Cuvelier (LU) herhaaldelijk op pad langs Roemeense wegen. Een totale reisafstand van meer dan 6000 kilometer bracht hem doorheen het hele land: Ciurea in het noordoosten, Iveşti en Liesti in het oosten, Strehaia in het westen, Buzescu in het zuiden. Hij ontdekte er de verbazende wereld van welvarende Roma-gemeenschappen die extravagant pralen met hun maatschappelijke succes.

Ik nodig u hartelijk uit op de opening op zaterdag 29 maart 2014 vanaf 11 uur. Voor die gelegenheid staan enkele lekkere specialiteiten uit Jette voor u klaar, katholieke biertjes en andere vodkas uit de Karpaten.

Collaborating with the publishing house Michel Husson (Brussels, BE), the Atelier 340 Muzeum presents an exhibition of sociological photography : a selection of works by two photographers. Both have in common that through their work they were in contact with people that usually are difficult to meet or get to know.

During multiple years, Jean-Manuel Simoes (FR) has wandered the suburbs of Paris, neighborhoods that are said to be sensitive and regularly make the headlines of the newspapers. With Chiens de la casse, he gives us an insight, leaving out all artificial dimension, of the gangs that he met here.

Accompanied by his friend and translator Andreea, Sébastien Cuvelier (LU) has, on multiple occasions crossed the Romanian roads. A journey of more than 6000 kilometers lead him to the four corners of the country: Ciurea in the north-east, Ivesti and Liesti at the east, Strehaia in the west, Buzescu in the south. The world that he discovered here was one of prosperous Roma communities who proudly parade their social success.

I would like to cordially invite you to the opening on Saturday 29th of March 2014, starting at 11 am. For the occasion there will be some local gastronomic specialties from Jette, a selection of fine Catholic beers and a range of vodka from the Carpates.
